Big Walk Towers Guide: Every Tower, Key and Reward
Updated 2026-09-03 · Steam Big Walk
The Big Walk towers are the island's five progression hubs, and each one works the same way: carry gourds into the tower, drop them into its dispensary until every slot is full, and the tower hands you a key. There are four primary towers, coloured red, yellow, green and blue, plus a fifth black structure that only opens once the other four are done. The key you earn is not a generic key — each one switches on a specific piece of the island, which is why the towers double as the game's unlock ladder rather than as optional scenery.
No House House patch note describes tower interiors, so everything below comes from the community Fandom wiki and from player-written Steam Community guides. Where a guide author is the only source, this page says so.
What is inside a tower
The community wiki describes one repeating layout for the four primary towers. Each has a distinct outside shape and colour — one is wavy, another an inverted triangle — but the floor plan is the same.
A latch door at the front lets you in. Inside is a room with a split staircase and a middle ledge holding a directional torch and an item scanner. Up the stairs, the second floor holds the gourd slots plus a table of useful gear, and binoculars and a laser pointer sit at the top, which makes a tower a reliable restock point before a long leg of the walk. The black tower breaks the pattern entirely and is shaped more like a tall speaker.
Latch doors matter more than they look: the wiki notes they are soundproof, and when they come in pairs, toggling one usually toggles its neighbours — the same door type used throughout the island's puzzles.
| Where in the tower | What you find there |
|---|---|
| Ground floor ledge | Directional torch, item scanner |
| Upper floor | Gourd slots (the dispensary), a table of assorted items |
| Top of the tower | Binoculars, laser pointer |
| Nearby (Green Tower) | The GPS, used for coordinate puzzles |
| Beneath Blue Tower | A bonus walkie-talkie on the platform, per the walkie-talkie guide |
The five towers and what each key unlocks
The wiki's Key page and two separate Steam guides agree on what each colour turns on. The gourd counts come from the 100% achievement guide, so treat those numbers as player-tested rather than official.
| Tower | Gourds needed (player-tested) | Key unlocks | Where the key is used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red | 5 | The Map Room | The large staircase beside the tutorial area |
| Green | 5 | The chairlift, which links the Blue, Yellow and Black tower areas | The lift station near Green Tower |
| Yellow | 5 | The tunnel network and the other main coloured doors | The Yellow Door |
| Blue | 5 | The trains — the interactive-map guide counts three of them | The station near Blue Tower |
| Black | 6 | The Black Key, which opens the gate at the Wall in the far west | The bridge and gate at the Wall |
One wording difference worth flagging: the achievement guide calls the Blue Tower system a monorail and describes turning on "the monorail system", while the interactive-map guide says the Blue Tower starts all three trains. Both describe the same rail unlock; neither is an official term.
The Black Tower is the exception. The interactive-map guide says it opens by itself once the other four are finished; the achievement guide puts the same gate at five earlier key-and-unlock sets, the starting-area drawbridge plus the four colours. Its key leads past the Wall into the game's closing stretch.
Gourds, blorbs, and where they come from
The item you feed into a tower is a gourd. The Fandom wiki notes that the game never says the word out loud and that the name is confirmed from developer files; the Steam 100% achievement guide this page leans on most often calls them blorbs instead, so you will see both terms in community posts. Either way, gourds are the reward for solving puzzles, and a tower needs a full dispensary before it produces anything.
Rough accounting from the achievement guide, all player-reported: four gourds in the starting area open the drawbridge, then five go into each coloured tower and six into the black one, for 30 spent on keys. Eight extra red gourds and seven purple challenge gourds exist beyond that, and the guide's author takes those final 15 to a green building near the tutorial and map area for the last achievement.
The same author flags an item sitting where the Weather Balloon is anchored — that landmark stands to the north of both the Green and Blue towers — which raises your gourd carry by one and mounts on a backpack — worth the detour if you are ferrying gourds repeatedly. Tower gear is listed on items.
Filing the key before you can use it
A key does not come out of the tower ready to go. The Fandom wiki explains that key filers are placed around the island in clusters, both near the towers that produce keys and near the locks those keys open. Slot the key into a filer, wait a few seconds while it cuts one of the pegs, and it pops back out. Each filer then points an arrow toward the nearest one you have not used yet, and a key has to pass through five separate filers before it fits its lock.
The interactive-map guide describes the same mechanic as a five-part clue chain, each stop pointing to the next before the finished key goes into its transport lock. Budget travel time: the filers are not next to the tower, and the walk between them is part of the puzzle.
Getting to the towers and climbing them
Our sources document no climbing route up a tower: you go in through the front latch door. Vertical tricks are for the terrain around them instead. The achievement guide names chained grabbing, where teammates repeatedly lift one another to reach ledges and barrier tops that are otherwise out of range. Another guide mentions prop climbing, which uses a carried object as an improvised step. Both are player-tested workarounds rather than supported features, and this page describes them only in outline.
House House has been closing movement gaps, so treat either method as fragile: patches 1.4.9 (announced 21 August 2026) and 1.5.1 (28 August 2026) both list changes making it harder to clip through certain walls, and 1.5.1 also fixed a spot where a player could be picked up across a turnstile.
For travel between towers, the achievement guide's author rates the tunnels fastest once the Yellow Tower is done, mentions a mountain shortcut near the golf gourd, and calls the monorail unhelpful because it is slow and the trains are few. Planning gets easier once the Map Room is open — see map and locations.
Landmarks around each tower
Towers are also navigation anchors, and several other guides give directions relative to them rather than by coordinates. All of the following are player-reported.
| Near this tower | What players report finding |
|---|---|
| Red Tower | A radio transmitter in a green-lit area by a large orange arch |
| Green Tower | A megaphone in the forest to the east; a radio transmitter northwest and downhill among pale blue platforms |
| Yellow Tower | A radio transmitter to the west, beside a flat grid structure in red and pink tones out near the map edge; a transmitter inside the Yellow Tunnel, which needs the tower finished first |
| Blue Tower | A green platform puzzle with a chair, headphones and a red button, around map coordinates 3560, 2040 |
| Green and Blue towers | The Weather Balloon sits north of the pair |
Full lists live on radio locations and megaphone locations.
One naming caution: a drawbridge guide describes the game's first puzzle cluster as sitting around a "Beach Tower" area in the starting region, and the interactive map files "lookout towers" under landmarks. Our sources do not connect either name to the five gourd towers, so treat them as separate player labels rather than a sixth tower.
Suggested order
A short community note recommends Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, then Black. That is one author's preference, not a rule — nothing in the sources locks the four coloured towers behind each other, and only the Black Tower has a stated prerequisite. The argument with real weight is that Red opens the Map Room, which makes later trips easier to plan, and that Yellow's tunnels speed up everything after.
Tower achievements
Big Walk has 12 Steam achievements, per the store page. Five are tied to tower keys, and the achievement guide marks four of those as technically missable, since they fire on using the unlock rather than on making the key.
| Achievement | Tower | How it triggers, per the guide |
|---|---|---|
| Big View | Red | Visit the Map Room after unlocking it |
| Big Sit | Green | Sit on the chairlift once it is running |
| Big Tunnel | Yellow | Enter the tunnel system |
| Big Ride | Blue | Step onto a moving train |
| Big Wall | Black | Pass beyond the Wall gate |
The full list, including the ones unrelated to towers, is on achievements.
Sources and last check
Checked 3 September 2026. Tower layout, ledge and rooftop items, the gourd dispensary, the black tower's shape, latch door behaviour, key filing and each key's function come from the community Fandom pages for Towers, Key, Items and Locations — a fan-maintained wiki, not a developer publication.
Player-reported and unverified by this wiki: gourd counts per tower, the unlock order, achievement triggers, the Weather Balloon carry item, chained-grab climbing and the travel advice, all from the Steam Community 100% achievement guide, the interactive map guide and a short Big Walk guide. The landmark directions come from the megaphone, radio, walkie-talkie and green platform guides on Steam.
Official facts here are only two: the 12 achievements on the Steam store page, and the wall-clipping and turnstile fixes in the House House announcements for 1.5.1 (28 August 2026) and 1.4.10 with 1.4.9 (21 August 2026). Where two guides conflict, such as monorail versus trains, both wordings are noted above rather than resolved.
